Our Pizza’s
Shhh… here’s our secret to great pizza – SOURDOUGH! Our Sourdough takes 48-72 hours to make. No commercial yeast here! Experience the difference with Sourdough Pizza Company. We use whole milk fresh mozzarella and source our toppings locally when available. ALL of this to create a fantastic pizza experience!
Why Sourdough?
Ask anyone who has eaten our pizza and you’ll most likely hear them say, “There’s just something different about the crust.”
Sourdough is an ancient form of bread that is made up of three simple ingredients, starter (which consists of flour and water), salt and flour. There is no yeast, no milk, no oils and no sweeteners. When it comes to bread it’s the most natural process you can get. When it comes to pizza, it’s the tastiest base. Combine it with fresh toppings, toss it in a wood-fired oven and you get the best flavor profile you can ask for.

The Sourdough Dream
According to owner, Zac Kolegue, “pizza is undeniably the greatest food group ever!” I loved pizza as a child, and still do. In college I spent plenty of time dreaming about owning a pizza shop with my buddies. I probably spent even more nights eating PIZZA! At that time, owning a pizza shop was just one of those pipe dreams.
In 2012 a trip to San Diego turned into an “Aha Moment” and the idea of Sourdough Pizza Company was born. During vacation I stepped in to help my soon to be brother-in-law with his side hustle. David was working with a wood-fired pizza oven at some local farmers markets and a private event that he was hosting. That’s when I had my first “pizzaiolo” experience.
The Aha Moment happened during a wedding. My brother-in-law was busy with wedding festivities and the pizza team was in need of some help. I jumped in and began to help. While cooking pizzas (in my suit) for the wedding guests it hit me. “This is it.” This is how we bring great pizza to Lynchburg!
Armed with a dream and fresh inspiration I returned home to begin building my first pizza oven in a 12′ trailer. Sourdough Pizza Company was officially up and running. Fast forward over a decade and we are now running full time out of a brick and mortar store in Forest, Va. Our passion still remains. We take fresh ingredients, combine in it with delicious sourdough and fire it to perfection. One taste and you’ll find out what sourdough pizza is all about.
